This style of digital animation is the big brother and the successor to traditional hand-drawn animation, the likes of which haven’t been seen since the releases of the last hand-animated Disney pictures in the mid-to-late 2010’s. In this case, the joviality of computer animation is used with humorous effect once again. Yes, why shouldn’t we all watch more animated films!? They’re marvelous creations! I’ve already said that animation is far more versatile than live-action, something that the late, great Roger Ebert himself stated on several occasions. From left to right: Crane (David Cross), Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Po (Jack Black), Mantis (Seth Rogen), Monkey (Jackie Chan) and Viper (Lucy Liu). Following the defeat of Lord Shen, Po continues living, training and protecting the Valley of Peace with his friends, the masters of the Furious Five. Tigress, the lone survivor, races to the panda village to warn Po about his approaching destiny as the Dragon Warrior.

Because of this, the Furious Five and every other kung fu master in China, despite fighting ably, are slowly defeated one by one, including Shifu. Now, only a true master of chi can vanquish Kai. Jealous, Kai betrayed Oogway and was defeated after an almighty battle. Bringing him to a secluded panda village, the pandas used their knowledge of chi to save the master and taught him the arts. As Po journeys to his father’s village the rest learn that Kai was Oogway’s former comrade who rescued him on one occasion. Before they can depart, Kai’s jade warriors attack but are defeated. Joyful, Po agrees to return home to a mysterious panda village hidden in the mountains. While there, he meets Li Shan, another panda, and it is quickly established that the two are father and son. Disappointed with himself, Po returns to his adoptive father Ping. However, as soon as training begins it’s clear that Po is hopeless as an instructor, and as a result of his direction the masters of the Furious Five, Crane, Mantis, Tigress, Monkey and Viper, are injured. As it happens, said Dragon Warrior Po is honored to be given the mantle of teacher by Master Shifu, who was decided to retire. There, he sends jade warriors created from the chi of other kung fu masters from the past to face the Dragon Warrior. Kai steals Oogway’s chi energy, using it to return to the mortal world. After a brief battle, Oogway willingly submits, confident that the Dragon Warrior will defeat Kai. After his departure from the mortal world, Master Oogway is residing peacefully in the Spirit Realm when Kai, a monstrous kung fu master from his past, confronts him. From DreamWorks Animation comes the third installment in the Kung Fu Panda trilogy, once again featuring the voices of Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, James Hong, Dustin Hoffman, Lucy Liu, David Cross, Seth Rogen and Jackie Chan. Ha! In that sense, many things in modern cinema are forgiveable. Ironically, in every instance of an action film featuring martial arts all semblance of reality goes straight out the window to give you entertainment. I’ve only during this week begun martial arts lessons and one of the main pointers I look out for when I go to the movies is accuracy. “Kung Fu Panda 3” may offer a story that we are more than used to, but DreamWorks keeps things fresh, creative and funny enough to earn the thumbs-up.
